Many potential applicants create an Express Entry Profile then sit and wait to be called forward. Unfortunately Canadian Immigration requires many important steps to have been completed before this such as having your Trade Skills Recognized or your Educational Qualifications verified.

As a general guide these are the main steps to creating an express entry profile.

Your Express Entry Profile needs to be in depth and you need to give as much information as possible.

You will need to supply information for the following areas:

  • Your identity information
  • Your contact information
  • Educational information
  • Work experience information
  • Your language ability information
  • Any family that will be migrating with you if applicable (dependents)

Things you will need for your Express Entry profile:

  • Passport or travel document
  • National Occupational Classification (NOC) job title and code
  • Language test results (IELTS)
  • Educational Credential Assessment result
  • Copy of written job offer from a Canadian employer (if you have one)
  • Copy of provincial nomination (if you have one)
  • Personal reference number (if you have one) from the Come to Canada tool (Citizenship and Immigration Canada)

Creating an Express Entry Profile does not mean that you have applied for permanent residency, or that you will be invited to do so. You have to be invited to apply by the CIC, at that point you will need to supply more information in your permanent residency application.

To complete your Express Entry Profile you must register with the Canadian Government’s ‘Job Bank’ if you don’t already have a valid job offer or a nomination from a territory or province.

‘Job Bank’ is an easy to use job search tool that will connect you with employers and jobs in Canada, based on your experience and skills. Our specialists will assist with creating the right profile.

Now you have completed your profile, registered with ‘Job Bank’ and you meet the requirements, you will then be placed in the Express Entry Pool. You will be notified in your MyCIC account to confirm this.

You will be given a score based on factors that help immigrants do well in Canada. The higher your score the more chance you have at being invited to apply for permanent residency.

Please note any changes to the information you supplied in your profile must be updated accordingly.

If you get an Invitation to Apply, this is when you can apply for permanent residency. You then have 60 days from the time your invitation is received to apply.

It is crucial that you submit a complete application with all requested documents (including Police certificates) or your application will be rejected.
